The Barre
ABOUT THE WORDS:
The late film director, Robert Altman, once said, "I'm not trying to show you how I think life should be, I'm trying to show you how I find it." That, in effect, sums up the kind of nonfiction writing I do. I bring you facts, up close, personal, and as I find them.
Much of the information found in my books comes from talks with people from many walks of life. Although the topics we explore are quite different, a common thread is always present: the urge for self expression.
The people who participate in my books reveal themselves, warts and all, as a way to begin a conversation. A conversaton with you.
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHS:
Photographs are another way to get to know person, a place, and even an idea. I take hundreds and hundreds of photographs until I feel that I have the one shot, just one, that either expresses or complements the words in my books.
In my journey as a photographer, I've searched for new and different ways to show motion. Sometimes I portray dancers and athletes who are always in motion. Sometimes I show walls that stand still, and yet move in their own special way.
